Addressing separation and edge passivation challenges for high efficiency shingle heterojunction solar cells

چکیده
We are reporting the fabrication of high efficiency Silicon heterojunction shingle solar cells with very limited performance losses related to cell separation. A clean and innovative separation process was elaborated optimized, based on 45° rotated silicon brick wafers fabrication, allowing alignment preferential cleavage plan (110) bus bars. Hence, a simple but efficient mechanical crack propagation sufficient insure proper shingles cut. The smooth resulting edges were found be sensitive surface passivation technologies. Aluminum oxide layers fabricated by atomic layer deposition specifically developed so that their activation is fully compatible low temperature constraints (typically less than 220°C). Interestingly, we showed annealing alone not activate such layers; alternative forming gas and/or light soaking treatments thus successfully applied instead values measured bare samples. Such then deposited activated wafer cleaved edges. Applied for example configuration, managed recover up 80% initial loss due separation, limiting overall 0.2% absolute.

Intrinsic hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) films can yield in outstanding electronic surface passivation of crystalline silicon (c-Si) wafers as utilized in the HIT (heterojunction with intrinsic thin layer) solar cells. We have studied the correlation between the passivation quality and the interface nature between thin amorphous layers and an underlying c-Si substrate for understanding...

Low-cost hybrid solar cells have made tremendous steps forward during the past decade owing to the implementation of extremely thin inorganic coatings as absorber layers, typically in combination with organic hole transporters. Using only extremely thin films of these absorbers reduces the requirement of single crystalline high-quality materials and paves the way for low-cost solution processin...

With an amorphous silicon (a-Si:H)/crystalline silicon (c-Si) heterojunction structure, the heterojunction with intrinsic thin-layer (HIT) solar cell has become one of the most promising technologies for c-Si based solar cells. By replacing a-Si:H thin films with appropriate compound semiconductors, we propose novel heterojunction structures which allow c-Si heterojunction solar cells to posses...
